November 25 Update- Physical Hydrogeological Assessment Report

November 25, 2020 Update:

 to discuss the November, 2020 McElhanney Groundwater Assessment, McElhanney added a section to the Assessment to address the impact of temperature on melting of the snowpack. The revised Groundwater Assessment contains new section 6.1.4 and Figure 20 which address the temperature impacts on snowmelt.

Updated Physical Hydrogeological Assessment

At  the November 12, 2020 Special Meeting of Council, MD Council heard a presentation from the McElhanney’s Senior Hydrogeologist, Roger Towsley, on the assessment of the June Exshaw groundwater event.  Council had requested that a groundwater study be undertaken on June 9th to determine:

  • the cause of the high groundwater;
  • if the recently completed Exshaw debris flow mitigation project was the cause;
  • and what could be done to mitigate the project.

While the first two questions were partly answered, the mitigation of future high groundwater requires more study.

A number of questions were asked, by Council, of the consultant before receiving the McElhanney Report, Physical Hydrogeological Assessment, as information.
