1. How do I find a job with the Municipal District?

Employment opportunities are posted on the Municipal District website as they become available. New postings can be found on the Employment Opportunities page.

2. How do I submit my resume for a job posting?

Resumes maybe emailed, mailed, faxed or dropped off in person.

3. Do I need a burn permit?

During the provincial Wildfire Season, March 1 to October 31, all burning within the Municipal District of Bighorn requires a permit. Please contact "Agriculture & Forestry" in Calgary at 403-297-8800 to make arrangements.

Outside of the provincial Wildfire Season, residents within the hamlets and residential subdivisions (Ghost Country Place, Kananaskis Settlement) require a burning permit which they may obtain at the Municipal District office at #2 Heart Mountain Drive. Burning permits are not required in the rural areas during this time.

Municipal District residents are only permitted to burn clean wood. No yard waste, construction / demolition waste, garbage or scrap, including anything treated or painted, tires, shingles, etc.

4. How do I apply for a dog licence?

Dog License Registration Forms can be found by clicking on Dog Registration Forms or can be obtained at the office.

Licenses are required for dogs 6 months of age and older, in the Municipal District hamlets where animal control services are provided. (Hamlets include Exshaw, Dead Man's Flats, Lac Des Arcs and Harvie Heights) 

Registration Forms filled out electronically will automatically be submitted, however, depending on your payment selection please see below:

Payment can be dropped off in person to the Administration Building at #2 Heart Mountain Drive, Exshaw Alberta, we will need the dog owner’s name to process payment. Dog tag(s) and receipt will be issued right on the spot.

Mail payment to MD of Bighorn, PO BOX 310, Exshaw AB, T0L 2C0 include the dog owner’s name. Tag(s) and payment receipt will be mailed to dog owner. 

We also have a drop box at the front of the Administration Building for any payments.

5. How do I change my address?

It is important to the Municipal District that if your address changes that you notify us. 

Click on the link below and complete a Change of Address Authorization Form which will be directly submitted to our office via email.

6. What Are Property Taxes?

The MD of Bighorn No. 8’s Council and Administration determine the budget required to provide local services, through the collection of Property Taxes.

7. When are my taxes due?

Municipal District of Bighorn taxes are due on the last business day of June. There are a few options for paying taxes; One-Time payments or setting up on the TIPPS Program (Tax Installment Payment Plan) Credit Cards are accepted for Tax Payments using the Option Pay Portal. 8. How can I be a delegation or make a presentation during Council meetings?

Municipal District council is always willing to hear from residents or ratepayers on concerns and issues. To have your delegation added to the regular Council Agenda, your request must be submitted in writing (or by e-mail) to the Municipal District's Executive Assistant no later than seven business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Included with the request; a copy of your presentation or a full description of the issue / topic you wish to discuss. The Executive Assistant will confirm your request with the time and date for your appointment with Council.

9. Whom do I call regarding a deceased animal on the highway?

To report a deceased animal located on a primary or secondary highway please contact Volker Stevin at 888-VSROADS (888-877-6237).

10. How do I sign up for Emergency Notification?

The MD of Bighorn wants to make sure our residents are safe and informed. The emergency notification solution is a communication service available to all MD residents to receive emergency notifications. You have the ability to customize your notification preferences and communication can be received through email, text and/or phone call according to your selections and based on address locations that you specify.
